John Mullan, M.D.
Biography
John Mullan, M.D., received his bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago. He completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Mullan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgery, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Minnesota State Neurosurgical Society, the American Medical Association and the Minnesota Academy of Medicine. He is a board member of the Minneapolis Neuroscience Institute and a member of the Abbott Northwestern Neuroscience Department. He serves on the Abbott Northwestern Spine Advisory Council, Operating Room Committee, Operating Room Utilization Sub-Committee, Neuroscience/Spine Peer Review Workgroup, Retained Foreign Objects Steering Committee, Perioperative Safety Committee, Spine Quality Council, Critical Care Steering Committee, Critical Care Breakthrough Workgroup and the Preop Rapid Processing Workgroup.
Dr. Mullan is a Vice President and the Secretary of Neurosurgical Associates.
Dr. Mullan's specialty interests are cervical and lumbar spinal surgery, radiosurgery, brain tumor surgery and medical technology. He is a clinical assistant professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota and teaches at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Dr. Mullan currently sees patients in Minneapolis and Waconia and performs surgery at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. He performs radiosurgery in conjunction with the radiation oncologists at Abbott Northwestern Hospital using the Varian Trilogy System.
Dr. Mullan is a pilot and had lectured about the desirability of incorporating aviation safety principles and systems into the operating room.
